The Goodrich family founded The Asylum Inn in 2003. This three-story brick building was originally built in 1901 and was one of the most prestigious homes built. The building then became a private hospital in the 1930s. However, though it has been fully restored, the Inn still maintains its rustic charm and character. The Inn has three beautiful flats and will accommodate up to 20 guests.
The Asylum Inn consists of three flats, has six large bedrooms with 4 ½ baths, and sleeps up to 20 guests. We are located four lovely blocks from Lake Michigan and one block from the Riverfront and downtown South Haven. The Asylum Inn is walking distance to most of South Haven’s attractions, making it perfect for the entire family. Our Inn is one-of-a-kind, complete with iron beds and comfortable furniture. Each flat has a living room and fully equipped kitchen. Lock and key for each flat is available or it can be opened up to create one mansion. Our newest addition is the Pavilion and Gazebo, making The Asylum Inn a wonderful venue for our guests having private events and parties. All events are planned by The Asylum Inn.
Centrally located in downtown South Haven, the Asylum Inn is a real beauty. She received a full restoration in 2003, but still retains the culture and class from her original design in 1901, when she was known as the Brick Building. From a house for the German immigrant Jacobs family and their lady of the house Lillian, to the private Memorial Hospital and finally to a seven-apartment building, the Asylum Inn stands as strong and vibrant as ever today, thanks to founders and owners Tina and Mark Goodrich.
